Traffic accident At 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Oregon State Police cited Michael James Cornelius Jr., 27, of Astoria, for careless driving, after a traffic accident on Oregon Highway 202 near Walluski Road. According to OSP, Cornelius had been driving east in his 2007 Toyota Corolla, when he lost control and hit a power pole near the edge of the road. His car then rolled over and landed upside down in the ditch. He and his three passengers escaped injury in the crash, which closed the highway for about two hours while Pacific Power employees removed the power pole. Cornelius said he swerved to avoid a deer. OSP determined that speed may have been a factor in the crash. Personnel from the Olney-Walluski Fire Department and the Clatsop County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
DUII arrest At 11 p.m. Wednesday, Oregon State Police arrested Koby M. Delnick, 22, of Seaside, for driving under the influence of intoxicants on U.S. Highway 26, 2.5 miles east of the Cannon Beach junction. OSP said Delnick reported he was driving east in his white 1998 Lexus when he swerved to avoid a deer. His car went off the road into a ditch, traveled down the ditch for 100 feet, then struck a culvert under a driveway. It then went airborne across the driveway and struck a cement-filled steel pipe. OSP said investigation determined Delnick was impaired and he was arrested for DUII and open container of alcohol. Cannon Beach police and Seaside Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
